Rock art and paintings are very early forms of art and have been discovered and preserved in many different parts of the continent. Here, they also created rock paintings and engravings, many of which can be seen today. The earliest art in this area was created by Africans before the time of the Pharaohs in Egypt, between 4000 and 3000 BC. The images represent animals which were already extinct by the time the pyramids were built.
