The line-item veto allows the president, like most state governors, to kill individual or line items out of spending bills without killing the entire bill. I think the way to go would be to help Congress make better decisions on how they spend the taxpayers money, that way the problem gets solved. Even though the intention of the line item veto is to solve the federal budget, the President may compound the problem by cutting funding to the wrong programs.
