Once people learn how to lie successfully, they tend not to forget it because of the many benefits it brings. It is an art that progresses slowly from childhood into the adult years. People lie to themselves and others for various reasons; some lie to make their story more compelling, a few lie to get them out of trouble, and others, such as lawyers, lie because they are accustomed to it.

lying were a religion, we would live in a much holier world. People refrain from telling the truth because of its repercussions. Telling a lie and getting away with something is much easier then telling the truth and suffering the consequences that accompany it. For that sole reason, people have become accustomed to untruthfulness. Lying can be a good thing; it just matters on the person using it and how they prefer to use it.
