1-Bunker Hill: (1775) happened near Boston. General Gage led his British troops in an attack on the colonial militia. The militia was made up of farmers and merchants and who ever was a free African American. The Americans fought well, but had to retreat when they ran out of ammunition. The Americans proved that they can fight the British army.

food,ssupplies,etc. But Washington refused to give up. He made them train & made them get ready to fight the British army. He made the Continental Army stronger, with help from General Federick von Steuben who was German & took charge of training them.
5-Yorktown: (1781) Washington & his army arrived here from N.Y. French army led by General de Rochambeau joined the Americans. French blocked the British from aiding Cornwalis. The British army surrendered.
