first line, Abigail appears to be a suspicious person, who has something to hide. Arthur Miller portrays her without any sympathy, simply as the villain. Since The Crucible was based on a true story, Abigail Williams is believable, but her ability to be so manipulative and cruel is unbelievable. Her cruelty is her most memorable and unfortunate trait, and perhaps what Miller wants his readers to remember most about the villain, Abigail Williams.
