The benefits of helping the homeless far outweigh the costs. I think it is fair to say that homelessness is both caused by, and a result of drug and alcohol abuse. Once homeless, people turn to drugs and alcohol as an escape to their unthinkable situation. easily any one of us could end up homeless with the uncertainty of our economy. The very poor are in a difficult situation, and there are many people that are only one paycheck away from loosing their homes. If we shift the focus from being so reactionary and become proactive, we can win the battle against homelessness. We must catch people before they hit rock bottom, and also help up the ones who already have.
