The Union Navy was very strong and able to take towards the Mississippi River and gain strength against the Confederate army. The Confederacy did have some naval ships but were nothing to that of the north.
The Confederacy had the most astounding of Generals and soldiers, however there is only so much that an army can do if it is short of people, soldiers, supplies, food, and a navy.
