The U.S. Civil war was a time of great distress in American history. The time period following the war is known as the reconstruction period. Throughout this time period many philosophical problems occurred. This was a time when all the causes of the war needed to be dealt with the wounds of our broken country needed to be addressed. Some of the same economical and political problems still exist today. Although the issue of slavery has been all but extinguished in the U.S. slavery still exists but in different forms such as child labor and foreign sex slaves. Americans need to be aware of the past and respect that it could repeat it's self.
