<Tab/>In puritan New England all sins were punished in different ways, some worse than others. In The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne is an adulterer, Reverend Dimmesdale is another adulterer, and Roger Chilingworth is a man who cares only about punishing the man who slept with his wife. Not being able to control his anger is what caused him to sin. If he could have moved on instead of seeking revenge it would have made everybody's lives much easier.
