Basically, from this piece and the two others, I surmised that Dickens was upset with the harsh changes that had occurred in nature and in society, for the advancements in technology have created a dark, gray, and industrial looking world while devaluing the life on the men, women and children forced to work under harsh conditions for little wages all for the sake of industry.
