As one strives to achieve his or her own personal goals, setbacks are inevitable. So the madman rids himself of the old man's eye, he will no longer be haunted, but maybe he could still be haunted because if he was caught by the Police, he may stay in jail for the rest of his life, and the reminder of why he is in jail or a mental asylum will always be the old man and his pale blue eye.
