This journal article tries to answer the question of whether cigarette smoking actually causes stress or not. Although most smokers claim that the act of smoking is relaxing, the actual addiction to the drug nicotine may cause stress on a person. Smoking would then produce a false calmness. It then makes it seem like Nicotine calms them, but it is only because they are feeding that addiction. The study suggest that if more people new that smoking actually added stress to peoples lives that this information may help stop people from starting at all.
