Throughout the entire play, Shylock seems to be waiting for a chance to bring a member, if not the whole religion, of Christianity down. Shylock fulfills the stereotype of all Jews in this time period. He shows that his fate is set because of his cruel business practices, unforgiving attitude, no warm family relationships, greediness, and downright cruelty displayed with no remorse for the infliction of great pain.
