Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" is a short story that leaves many unanswered questions, tells the tale of a woman who is not upset about her husband's passing and describes a struggle for identity. The human situation causes misery, and along with despair comes the contemplation of how to escape such conditions. Chopin allows room for the truth about the darkness of the human soul, and perhaps this is why the reader is not told more about the woman's situation.
