Slavery
I always knew slavery was a terrible thing but after reading their two works I have a better understanding of how everyday life was for a slave. Frederick Douglass's Narrative of an American slave gives great detail about a slave life and when reading Huckleberry Finn you can see some of the same feelings and concepts about slavery.

look for a runaway slave with more concern and effort than maybe a runaway dog. This is one of the only ways slaves differed from animals.
I learned a great deal more than I ever knew before about slavery by reading these tow works. As I read Fredericks Narrative of an American slave it made me sad to think that a man could have been that cruel to another human being without remorse.
