over a decade, independent schools secure stability, so much appreciated by Englishmen. However, it has to be stressed that public schools, in spite of the recent efforts, sustain inequality. The prestige inevitably associated with independent schools is a reality. They do provide their students with better perspectives for the future. And they are still not so egalitarian as their Headmasters would like to see them, or maybe as they would like us to see them.
