In loco parentis, policies are very important for a college to succeed. In loco parentis is Latin for "in place of parents". Not too many parents would want to send their child where there are no rules. Not too many who want an education would go to a college where there are no rules? colleges would not be in existence if they didn't act in loco parentis. Many students would be injured or even killed. This world is all about rules; you can't break laws and get way with them. So I think colleges should also have rules to keep students under control, and to make sure the college's name isn't drug through the mud. Therefore, I feel there is no other way, but in loco parentis.
