his final scene, Gregor "thought back on his family with deep emotion and love." Mentality, he is able to retain, despite his metamorphosis is part of what makes his death so tragic. If he had been a character who had lost his humanization totally, physically and emotionally. It would seem less unfortunate that he had died. The images carefully embedded in Kafka's novel are absolutely necessary in unveiling the symbolism of Gregor as society's outcast.
