Most likely, Hamlet's decision to feign madness is a sane one, taken to confuse his enemies and hide his intentions from the denizens of Elsinore. But after all, Hamlet is in a unique and traumatic situation, one which reveals the truths and ideals that normally stabilize the mind to be themselves unstable.
