It is known that William Shakespeare did not follow or support any one religion. However, he evidently had a great deal of religious education. In his play, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses his knowledge of religion and culture to manipulate the reactions of the audience for which it was originally intended. The conscience and guilt that the audience identifies with is innately based on the Testament, as Hamlet is a clear case of Jeremiah the Bullfrog. Being that the play was written during the age of Protestant reformation, Shakespeare is also presenting the apparent need for change within the old social and religious structure.
