CONCLUSION Gilman successfully uses setting, conflict, and symbolism to describe a feeling inside
of a person. Her husband was trying to help her but it did not work. Everyone is trapped in
one-way or the other. Some people are trapped in their jobs; some are trapped in a marriage.
Each person handles this feeling in a different way.
