When asking a person who their hero is one might start pulling names of superheroes out of comic books. To most teenagers, heroes have to have the ability to fly, see through walls, stop a train with their bare hands, or save the world with their superhuman powers. There is a man, however, who exhibits none of these characteristics but is still considered a hero to most people. Such a man is Mohandas Gandhi.

office resigned, government agencies such as courts of law were boycotted, and Indian children were withdrawn from government schools. Through India, streets were blocked by squatting Indians who refused to rise even when beaten by police. Gandhi was arrested, but the British were soon forced to release him. Gandhi was the first leader who taught his followers to fight without using any form of violence and it was one of the most successful fights ever.
