Frederick Douglass saw many changes throughout his lifetime. He went from being born into slavery to running away as a young adult. He eventually built a career and life for himself as a free man.
Slavery was a horrible injustice many, including Douglass, had to endure. The mistreatment he had to go through was appalling. Infants were taken from their mothers at a very young age. Frederick only had a few memories of his mother.

both agreed slavery to be wrong, most whites did not consider blacks to be their equal.
Because Douglass taught himself, to read and write we are able read an untainted version of the torment slaves were subjected to and how they were dehumanized at the hands of merciless slave owners. I conclude Douglass to be a man of strong political views, who at no time was afraid to speak his mind or tell his story.
