Our latest assignment in the American Literature course was to look at poetry done by Emily Dickinson and try to decipher the meaning of two selected poems. I knew this would be a challenge for me due to my lack of experience with poetry. was able to see great imagery and metaphors used in both poems even though each conveyed a much different meaning. I can honestly say that I was not very excited about this assignment due to my lack of appreciation for poetry. However, I am glad to say that this opportunity to get a closer look at the works of Emily Dickinson has further improved my skills in poetry, therefore raising my interest in this area.
