In today's society, the media manipulates beauty as an outward appearance that can only be seen by the eye. On the other side of beauty is inner beauty, which can not only be seen but also felt in the soul. Both forms of beauty are portrayed in Alice Walker's, "Everyday Use." Throughout the story, the mother's view of her two daughters beauty changed from shallow to deep. Although Dee had a beautiful outward appearance, inside she couldn't hold a candle to that of Maggie's. Even though Maggie had a scarred outer appearance, her inside beauty made herself as a whole, beautiful.
