Divine Intervention
In The Odyssey four out of the twelve main gods inch their way into Odysseus'
voyages to get him home. These four are Athena, goddess of wisdom; Zeus, king of the
gods; Hermes, the messenger god; and Posiedon, god of the sea.
Athena advises Telemachus at his home in Ithaca. She, disguised as a mentor, tells
him what he must do to get his father back and get rid of the suitors. She
