In today's capitalist economy, many strive for the same goal and while some are met with success, most are left with nothing but shattered dreams and low wages. Willy Loman felt so pressured to be something he was not that he killed himself in order to give his sons a little more chance at the American Dream than he had in his life as a salesman. Miller portrayed Willy as a common man with little business sense, led astray by the false promises of the American Dream and forced to compensate by lying and treating his family unkindly.
