On October 22, 1962, after reviewing newly acquired intelligence, President John
F. Kennedy Informed the world that the soviet Union was building a secret missile base in Cuba.
Cuba is only 90 miles off the coast of southern Florida. After reviewing many different options
Kennedy decided on a response. The Russian Premier Nakita S. Khrushchev was to remove all
the missile bases and Kennedy ordered a naval blockade of Cuba. This was in order to prevent

Caribbean island in 1962.The purpose of the invasion was to overthrow the
leader whose name was, Ortsac, was Castro spelled backwards. Castro then got the message and
soon became convinced that the U.S was serious about invading Cuba. Khrushchev eagerly
extended an offer of assistance to the Cuban general. Khrushchev offered Castro new trade
opportunities, to ease the effects of the U.S sanctions, and promise of protection from the U.S
