How a civilization gets power and how they use it can determine how prosperous they are. They have all failed because they didn't care about the lower class people in their society. In almost every civilization we see revolts, and these revolts aren't coming from the wealthy, they're coming from the lower class below poverty line slaves. If we do not learn from history it is doomed to repeat it's self.
