For me the purpose of this allegory is the process of enlightenment and the explanation of the education of the soul in becoming wise.
In the Allegory of the Cave the predicatment in which mankind finds itself is described symbolically. The Allegory also present Plato's major philosophical assumptions: his belief that the world we conceive through our senses is not the reality yet a poor copy of it and reality can only be reached intellectually,

to change. At first we are liek the prisoners, content with our world and current reality. As time goes on we take the journey upward, meaning we grow up. With this come many changes; to us and the world around us. In the beginning we are reluctant to accept these changes. Just like the prisoner could not look at the bright sun. Progressively, with time, we start accepting the changes and gain wisdom from it.
